Founders and editors Vivien Jones and Nicky Shortridge have been friends since they were 13 years old.

Vivien has edited consumer magazines for more than 20 years, while Nicky has worked on all kinds of publications, from journals to children’s books. Viv has two teenage daughters and Nicky has a young son.

They share a nostalgia for eighties music, a penchant for noodles and a love of the printed word.

Together, they publish KOOKIE, a new ad-free quarterly print magazine for pre-teen girls aged 8-12+.

In a world that often says there’s only one way to be a girl (think pink), KOOKIE is a genuine alternative – one that offers girls a rounded and optimistic sense of who they are and what they could become. There are interviews with remarkable women and girls from around the world, profiles of pioneering women in history, original fiction and comics, plus lively content on science and nature, art and activism, sports and technology, as well as craft, debate, puzzles, pets and more. KOOKIE is surprising, informative, inclusive and most of all … fun!

“Thank you for making this magazine about what you CAN be instead of what you SHOULD be.” Emilia R, 10
